Technically, it’s Wednesday since the time is 3:49 a.m.
It was a gorgeous Fall-type day in Waterloo.
I woke up in great anticipation. I normally work out daily but have been ramping it up for today.
I was carded to be a part of the Kick-off event held by the Canadian Paraplegic Association. Sheila O'Neill
Community Development Coordinator
, was kind enough to invite me and when she did, I responded immediately.

This Association, like many others while provide a tangible and generous service to people, is close to my heart. A few years ago, there was a student of mine who came to MBA classes in a wheelchair.
I learned so much from him. His courage and strength of character educated me in ways that no lecture could. I always remember his kind and cheerful attitude. He and I keep in contact and I am especially happy that he has set up his own business.
The relay race on the wheelchair was exciting, but it made me fully aware of what it takes to get around in one..
I had to work my way in-between pylons and then apply force to the wheels. It took quite an amount of effort, and I would urge anyone to try it to see what my courageous friends who use them have to contend with.
The experience left me deeply introspective, yet happy that we have organizations like the CPA.
I am determined that if elected Mayor, I would have accessibility as one of my areas of immediate attention.
That takes me on to the topic of bicycles.
I was hit hard when I heard about the cyclist who sadly passed away from injuries after being struck by a car on University Avenue. I want to endure that rules of the road are strictly enforced, and provide safety to cyclist and motorist alike. I’d like to create more bicycle paths and lanes also, since there is so much to be said for the positive impact of the bicycle.
I guess I should be getting to bed now.
It has been a long day but this part of it is conducive to getting things done.
See you tomorrow.
